All Saints Day
Today is November 1. In the Christian tradition, it is known as All Saints Day. Within the Christian denominations, there are some slightly different meanings, which I hesitate to go into, lest I am incorrect…
To me, it means “remembering those who have died and honoring their life.” We, of course, all know many who have died; and certainly honor their lives…How will we honor them today?
I am especially thinking of my mom, my Gramma White and my Gramma Lehman; they had an innate love of good, wholesome, homecooked, fresh, seasonal, local food. Gosh, that sounds just like me! Go figure
There is the rebirth of eating good, wholesome, homecooked, fresh, seasonal, local foods; we most often hear it refered to as “Going Green.” “Going Green” is much more than just our food; it is a love and respect for our earth , honoring its gifts to us and returning those gifts back to our earth.
I could go on and on about this…and I will this month of November. November is the month of “Gratitude.” How can we NOT be grateful to and for our earth and its gifts to us!
Today, All Saints Day, I honor my mom, Gramma White and Gramma Lehman. To honor them, I will go to our local Farmers Market, buy fresh, seasonal, local food and prepare a homemade dinner for my family.
How will YOU celebrate today?
